What I've Been Writing

This is the prologue of my novel I'm working on. Tell me what you all think!






~Prologue~








"Run!" Tess cries to me as the Snake Men rode through the city. As horses galloped pass me, I prayed I wouldn't get trampled by the big beasts. I had no desire to feel hooves dig into my back. I started running faster for I heard one of the Snake Men come right up behind me. He raised his sword. I saw it gleaming in the sun light as it started to descend upon me. Waiting to feel the metal cut through me was torture. I never felt it. I heard metal on metal and turned to see Aaron holding up a sword to block that of the Snake Man's. Aaron fought to keep the sword from crushing down on him, but it was obvious that he could not hold out long. I stepped back. "Go!" Aaron yelled at me. I fled. As I did, I saw out of the corner of my eye the destruction King Thore's men had made. The tears came faster down my cheeks. All around me houses burned, dead bodies lay, people screamed. Cries for mercy were cut short. I refused to dwell on the reason. I turned just for a moment and what I saw made me scream. "Aaron!" I cried as I watched him fall to the ground. I tried to go back, but all of a sudden something hard hit my head and all went black.





"Wake up!" A commanding voice said, so loud that my head ached even more. I sat up, trying to remember where I was and what had happened. It all came back in a rush. I remembered the Snake Men, the screams, everything. I started to cry at the horror of the memory, and received a harsh slap. " Stop that blubbering," the man said, glowering down at me. After hitting me, the man pulled me into a cell, then left. I looked around me. The cell was dark and cold, with an earthen floor and brick walls. Other prisoners sat on the floor, cold and dirty, holding their wide eyed and traumatized children.
I quickly closed my eyes to the sight and prayed to God that my family be alright and that, if it was His will, we would see each other again. I raised my bowed head, my eyes meeting those of a woman. In those eyes were sorrow and grief. She asked me, " How can you pray to Him when He could have prevented it all?" I was surprised by her question but answered, "Have faith, everything happens for a reason. His reason."
The woman just shook her head and turned away.









"If our luck holds out, we can start moving towards the capital," said Sir Cooper. He was second in command to King Thore. "Out of the 10,000 men you sent out to take the city of Athya, 9,000 have returned, with a total of 1,000 prisoners. Most of the people were killed when our men attacked. The army you are gathering is becoming larger. When we head for the capital, I have complete faith we will conquer. In a few months you will be the king of two kingdoms and in complete control."
King Thore smiled. Everything was going as planned.

I know I haven't posted for a long time, but I'm going to soon. I'm going to read a series Chuck Black has written. I don't know what it is called at the moment, but I'll be posting on them. I really love the Kingdom Series so I hope this one is just as good.

Princess of the Midnight Ball: By Jessica Day George

I just finished a book called Princess of the Midnight Ball.



The back reads:



Princess Rose is the eldest of twelve sisters condemned to dance each night for the wicked King Under Stone in his palace deep within the earth. It is a curse that has haunted the girls since their birth- and only death will set them free.

Then Rose meets Galen, a young soldier-turned-gardener with an eye for adventure and a resolve that matches her own, and freedom suddenly begins to seem a little less impossible. To defeat the king and his dark court, they will need one invisibility cloak, a black wool chain knit with enchanted silver needles, and that most critical ingredient of all-true love.





It started out good and all, but then it started to get a little too full of magic. I love fantasy stories, but this book crossed the line for me in the magic department. So yeah, it was a good story line but too much magic and talk of witches.



The next book I'm going to read is called Freckles and I know this is a good book so I will be writing a review on it when I'm done. (don't read very fast, it might be a while.)

Forest Born: By Shannon Hale

Forest Born is the 4th book in the Bayern Books.


1. The Goose Girl. (which I have said is a very good book.)





2. Enna Burning. (which I don't recommend.)





3. River Secrets. ( Which I again don't recommend.)





4. Forest Born. ( Which I don't recommend.....again.)





2. 3. and 4. are not very bad but there are parts in it that are not necessary. They are written for young adults so that might explain why these parts are in there.


But anyway the books are about people that find out that they have a "different language on their tongue." In the first one a girl can talk to wind. And in the second a girl can talk to fire. In the third a girl can talk to water and in the forth a girl can talk to trees. These are called The Gifts. One can talk to rocks, grass, and a million other things in the books. But one of the most dangerous gifts that the people in the books call The Curse, is people speaking. People speaking is where you can tell what people are thinking in their expressions and you can convince them that what you say, lie or not, is true. And there must always be a balance. If you have water and just water, you will end up drowning from the inside. And if you have fire and only fire you will end up burning from the inside. But if you have both water and fire there is a balance.

Well anyway, very good stories but unnecessary parts that stop me from ever reading them again.

The Berinfell Prophecies: Curse of the Spider King

I read the Curse of the Spider King by Wayne Thomas Batson and Christopher Hopper. It is without a doubt one of the best books I've ever read!

The back of the book says:

The Spider King's minions are crossing from Allyra to Earth to hunt for seven unsuspecting thirteen-year-olds, who are royalty from a foreign world. Stopped once by an ancient curse, the dark forces are determined to finish the job. The Seven's only hope for survival is a remnant of exiled Elves intent on restoring their kingdom- but can they be trusted?



Navigating the tangled web of the Spider King, the teens must make a perilous choice: Go to Allyra and face an uncertain destiny: or remain on Earth and risk the lives of the ones they love.



It was so exciting! I can't wait for the next book to come out! A part I really liked was that the Spider King sends spies to Earth and you know who those spies are? Spiders. Little spiders. The very ones that crawl on your ceiling at night. Oh! When I read that, I started to see spiders everywhere! And the very night I read that part I got up to get a drink of water ( I was reading in bed) I saw a spider crawling on the ceiling of the kitchen. I glared up at it and said, "Hello spider. You aren't going to try and kill me!" and I killed it.

This is a must-read book.

Princess Academy

The next afternoon break, Miri joined the others outside. The sun's glare off the snow made her eyes water, but it seemed the most beautiful day Miri could remember. The sky was achingly blue. The snow that crunched under her boot spread over stone and hillock like spilled cream. The cold made the world feel clean and new, a day for beginnings.
