Writing Group Meeting

Some of my friends and I have a writing group. We had our first meeting.

I Guess I Was Wrong

I normally read fantasy......if you couldn't already tell that:) Anyway, once in a while I'll read a classic something by Janet Oak or Louisa May Alcott but never, Never, anything by Beverly Lewis. And of course I don't mean Beverly Lewis is a bad writer or anything but I never could get into any of her books and, to my shame, I thought her very boring. But one day I was walking through the library and I came across her books. I looked at them, wondering how anyone could get into these when I saw one entitled The Secret. These are the books my mom had been reading......huh, I wonder what they're about, was what I thought as I picked it up. I looked at the back and read:






In the seemingly ordinary Amish home of Grace Byler, secrets abound. Why does her mother weep and wander deep in the night? And why does her father refuse to admit something is dreadfully wrong? Then, in one startling moment, the quiet life Grace has known is irrevocably altered, leaving her to question all she has been taught about love, family, and commitment.



I looked around and saw a chair to my left. Well, I don't have anything better to read at the moment, I thought and took the book with me, sat down and started reading. I had read a page or two of the prologue when I noticed my mom would be coming to pick me up soon. I was surprised by my next thought. I wanted to check this book out! This book! By Beverly Lewis, the writer I had once sworn I would never read anything by. But the next thought that came knocked every intention of checking this book out, out of my head. I had forgotten my library card. So I put it back and waited outside for my mom.
Weeks passed and I was back in the world of fantasy. Where I belong :) I soon forgot about The Secret and I couldn't care less. But the day came when I was once again looking around the library trying to kill time before my mom picked me up. That's when I remembered The Secret. I walked over to it and picked it up. Well, why not? I took it upstairs to a bean bag chair and started reading it again. After a bit I was reading avidly and when the time came to go, I checked it out.



The book sits beside me as I type and I'm almost half way done. I'm enjoying it very much.
Well, I can not stay away from it too long, so for now...........

Enchanted Forest Chronicles: Book Two, Searching For Dragons, By Patricia C. Wrede

OK, so I finished Book Two. It was really good as well. It has a very unexpected ending and the best part was that it was even more funny then the first one. I love books with humor and it was the best kind, too. It wasn't just jokes, it wasn't just the grumpy gargoyle, it was the sarcastic witch that really did it for me. I would burst out laughing at the way she talks sometimes. This one had so much adventure, too! The wizards are back and they are up to no good. It starts with a king, a mystery, giants, a broken magic carpet, a magic sword, and it ends with a wedding.



I recommend this book as well.

The Enchanted Forest Chronicles, Book One, Dealing With Dragons By Patricia C. Wrede

I have just finished this great book and I completely recommend it. This book is about a princess named Cimorene. But she is no ordinary princess. She doesn't like to dance, do stitchery, learn, or anything of the sort. And she really doesn't want to marry a stuffy prince. She is bored with her life and wants adventure. Well, she got it! Cimorene runs away and becomes a maid for a dragon named Kazul. Along the way she meets a witch, wizards, a jinn and a bunch of dragons.



I normally don't read too many books with witches, but sometimes I do. I don't like to read a book when all the focus is on the magic, but this book wasn't like that. It had magic but it wasn't concentrating on it. This book was funny and very enjoyable. I can't wait to read the second one!

The Knights Of Arrethrae: By Chuck Black

This is the series I have been reading and it is one of my new favorites. There are six books in the series but the last two are not out until this fall. The ones I've read so far are:





1. Sir Kendrick & The Castle Of Bel Lione





2. Sir Bentley And Holbrook Court





3. Sir Dalton And The Shadow Heart





The one I'm waiting for is about Lady Carliss. I can't wait to read it. Chuck Black is a wonderful Christian author, and you can tell just by reading his books that his love for Christ is strong. A thing to know is that these books are connected to Chuck Black's Kingdom Series and it would be best to read The Kingdom Series first, The Knights Of Arrethae would make more sense that way.


I think so far my favorite would have to be Sir Dalton. For reasons that are many, but the first reason is that I think a lot of us can relate to him as Christians struggling in the way Sir Dalton struggles, in truly understanding what Christ did for us, and fully appreciating it, not just taking it as a lesson you learn at church but as a wonderful gift given to us by our King.
